The Faculty of Law of Vilnius University is participating as a partner (beneficiary) in the international project TRIANGLE-EU, funded by the European Union under the Justice Programme (JUST). The Vilnius University research team is led by Prof. Habil. Dr. Gintaras Švedas.
The project examines how European Union Member States can strengthen their cooperation in seeking alternatives to the extradition of EU citizens to third countries. Particular attention is devoted to enhancing mutual recognition and safeguarding fundamental freedoms within the European Union.
The project will deliver:
- a digital platform featuring country profiles of EU Member States;
- a repository of legal and case-law resources;
- practical guidelines for defence lawyers;
- academic publications presenting the project’s key findings.
The project consortium consists of:
- the University of Coimbra Institute for Legal Research (UCILeR, Portugal) – project coordinator;
- Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna (Italy);
- Vilnius University (Lithuania);
- the European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA).
The project will run from March 2026 to February 2028. The total European Union contribution amounts to EUR 347,525.83.
The Faculty of Law researchers participating in the project are Prof. Habil. Dr. Gintaras Švedas and Dr. Ugnė Nasvytė.
