About the Lecture

We invite you to attend a lecture in English by Jeanne Sulzer, a counsel at the International Criminal Court (ICC), titled “Enforcing Universal Jurisdiction in Practice: Challenges from the French Experience.”Drawing on more than 20 years of experience representing victims in French universal jurisdiction cases, including cases related to the use of chemical weapons in Syria, Ms. Sulzer will explain how such cases are prepared and tried in court.

The lecture will address issues related to the collection and presentation of evidence, immunity, proceedings in absentia, and the role of victims. It will also examine what lessons France’s experience can offer in the effort to combat impunity for international crimes more effectively.
