Scientific Seminar “Constitutional Law Facing Contemporary Challenges: Comparative Insights from Lithuania and Poland”

The Faculty of Law of Vilnius University cordially invites you to the international scientific seminar “Constitutional Law Facing Contemporary Challenges: Comparative Insights from Lithuania and Poland”, which will take place on September 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the VU Law Faculty (Law Space, 1st floor).

The aim of the seminar is to strengthen cooperation between Lithuanian and Polish constitutional law scholars, to encourage academic discussions, and to share insights on contemporary challenges in constitutional law and their solutions.

Participants will include constitutional law scholars from various universities in Lithuania and Poland.

The program includes the following presentations:

  • Prof. Agnieszka Bień-Kacała (University of Szczecin): “Fight for the Definition of Family on the Street. Analysis of Pro-Family and Equality Demonstrations”

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dovilė Pūraitė-Andrikienė (Vilnius University): “Conclusion on the Constitutionality of the Istanbul Convention by the Lithuanian Constitutional Court: Context, Reasoning, and Legal Consequences”

  • Dr. Ilona Grądzka (John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agnė Juškevičiūtė-Vilienė (Vilnius University): “The Institution of Marriage in National Law and European Union Law: Between State Autonomy and Common Standards”

  • Dr. Karolina Bubnytė-Širmenė (Vilnius University): “Several Thoughts on the Ruling of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court on the Institution of Partnership of 17/04/25”

  • Dr. Katarzyna Szwed (University of Rzeszów): “The Constitutional Protection of Children’s Rights: A Comparative Perspective from Lithuania and Poland”

The discussion will be moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Donatas Murauskas.

The seminar will provide an opportunity to discuss current issues and trends in constitutional family law, to engage in academic discussions, as well as to establish international contacts and foster joint research projects.

The event will be held in English. Free admission.
