Today, the graduation ceremony of the VU Faculty of Law took place at St. John’s Church of Vilnius University. The ceremony was conducted in Lithuanian with simultaneous interpretation into English. During the event, a total of 43 Master’s diplomas and 4 doctoral diplomas were awarded.
We warmly congratulate all graduates!
The graduates and other attendees were addressed by the Vice-Rector for Organizational Development and Community Affairs of Vilnius University, Prof. Dr. Vilmantė Pakalniškienė; the representative of the Faculty of Law Alumni Association, Remigijus Lapinskas; and the Chair of the Vilnius University Students’ Representation at the Faculty of Law, Andrius Viljamas Gontier. In his speech, he emphasized that “the study of law requires inner courage to acknowledge that law is not merely black and white, but most often begins with the words ‘…it depends.’”
While congratulating the graduates who had come to receive their diplomas, their families, and the entire Faculty of Law community, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Haroldas Šinkūnas, quoted a thought attributed to Alexander the Great in ancient texts, most commonly associated with Plutarch: “When Alexander the Great arrived in a certain land, he was offered part of its territory and half of the country’s wealth, to which he replied: I did not come to Asia for what you can give me, but for what I can leave behind here.”
Addressing the graduates, the Dean encouraged them to always consider what they can give to others, reminding them that lawyers must be boni (good) and iusti (just).
During the ceremony, doctoral diplomas were awarded to Paulius Griciūnas, Goda Strikaitė-Latušinskaja, Dmytro Korchahin, and Justinas Jarusevičius. In addition, two Cum Laude diplomas were awarded to graduates of the International and European Law study programme, Nana Ochkhikidze and Guranda Kartvelishvili.
Furthermore, community awards of the Vilnius University Faculty of Law were presented to two students of Šiauliai Julius Janonis Gymnasium, Domantas Sruogis and Danielius Šer.
The ceremony also featured musical performances by the Vilnius University Culture Centre, including “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg and the main theme from “Star Wars” by John Williams.
