International Conference “Fight for your rights club: human rights in a democracy of the digital age”

The conference “Fight for Your Rights Club: Human Rights in a Democracy of the Digital Age”, held on 15-16 May, discussed the transformation and preservation of human rights in the digital era. Organised by Vilnius University (VU) Faculty of Law and the International Network of Doctoral Studies in Law, the 12th annual conference brought together young legal professionals from universities in Germany, France, Poland, Bulgaria, the UK, Latvia, and Lithuania.

The event was opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr Vigita Vėbraitė, Dean for Studies of the VU Law Faculty, welcoming the participants. The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr Charles Szypszak, Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Government. Speaking about comparative law, he invited the participants of the event not only to learn about other legal systems, but also to feel gratitude for the system of their own country and to strive to improve it.

The two-day conference focused on current changes in human rights, data protection and the right to privacy, e-justice and procedural issues, as well as the challenges to human rights posed by artificial intelligence.
