Lecture “Leading the Future of International Dispute Resolution”

Commercial arbitration is a way to solve disputes more privately and faster, says Caroline Falconer, Secretary General of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC). On April 24th she visited the VU Law Faculty and held a lecture “Leading the Future of International Dispute Resolution“.
According to C. Falconer, Sweden and Stockholm became one of the most important centers for commercial arbitration, because here are arbitration-friendly courts, low corruption, digital services and cost efficiency. As well, she presented how SCC works and what are the responsibilities of the Secretariat, Board, and Arbitrators, who are completely independent.
An important part of the arbitration process is choosing an arbitrator, who has to be as neutral as possible for both parties of the dispute. SCC Arbitration Institute has its own policy for choosing arbitrations – a candidate has to have experience as an arbitrator. For the Institute, it is also important to ensure diversity, availability, nationality, and other attributes when choosing an arbitrator.
