Today, 11 October 2026, we celebrate a very special milestone – the 385th anniversary of Vilnius University Faculty of Law!
385 years of history, traditions, ideas and, most importantly, people! It is more than just a number. It represents almost four centuries of legal history and the history of our state. It is a respect for scholarship, academic freedom, law and humanity, passed down from generation to generation.
Over the centuries, times, generations and circumstances have changed, but the Faculty of Law has always been shaped by its people. Those who studied, taught, conducted research, engaged in discussions, sought answers and courageously drove change. Those whose work contributed to the development of Lithuania’s legal system and statehood.
This story continues through the entire Faculty of Law community – students, lecturers, researchers, staff, alumni and friends. Each of us contributes in our own way to what the Faculty is today and what it will become in the future.
“Today, we celebrate not only 385 years of history, but also the future,” says Prof. Dr. Vigita Vėbraitė, Dean of the Faculty of Law, in her anniversary message.
We sincerely thank everyone who has contributed and continues to contribute to shaping the Faculty of Law – for your knowledge, work, ideas, courage, preservation of traditions and belief in the law. This anniversary is a celebration for all of us!
To mark this special occasion, we invite you to explore the Faculty’s history and the people behind it through the lens of a camera. We are sharing the trailer for a documentary film dedicated to the Faculty’s 385th anniversary. The full film will be released soon, so stay tuned for more news from the Faculty of Law.
