Professor of VU Faculty of Law Vytautas Mizaras was appointed as a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania

On Tuesday professor Vytautas Mizaras was appointed as a new Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania by the Parliament of Lithuania.

Vytautas Mizaras is a professor at the Vilnius University Faculty of Law department of Private Law, the head of the European Center for Private Law and Intellectual Property Law, the chairman of the board of the Human Rights Monitoring Institute and the partner in the law firm Ellex Valiūnas.

The professor specializes in intellectual property law and private international law, has contributed to the preparation of various legal acts, participated in working groups drafting the new Civil Code of the Republic of Lithuania, the new Code of Civil Procedure of the Republic of Lithuania, etc.

He obtained the qualification of a lawyer in 1997 at Vilnius University, since 1998 he holds a master’s degree from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. In 2002 he defended his doctoral dissertation in the field of social sciences law “Civil Methods of Copyright Protection” in Vilnius University.

The Constitutional Court is renewed every three years by one third, it consists of nine judges appointed for nine years and for one term.
