VU Law Faculty students participated in an International Client Consultation Competition

The Brown-Mosten International Client Consultation Competition (ICCC) is a remarkable opportunity for law students to challenge themselves through learning and practicing client counseling and interviewing skills. This competition takes place every year in different countries across the world, where law students from various countries meet and get the opportunity to get acquainted with different cultures and other legal systems. This year’s competition was organized in Lublin, Poland on April 10-13, and 24 countries were registered.

Taking into account, that conflicts in the world are getting worse (Russia-Ukraine war, Israel-Hamas war), there is no need to emphasize how important international humanitarian law (IHL) has become in today‘s world, therefore such relevant topic was chosen for this year’s competition, where students acting as attorneys in simulated law office provide initial legal client consultation within advice regarding the stated complex situation and having in mind IHL rules.

The participating students, Vladyslav Murachov and Kamilė Smilgevičiūtė, shared that the Brown-Mosten international client consultation competition was an invaluable experience for them as competitors, during this competition they highlighted their soft skills, worked on networking and put their IHL knowledge to practise as well as tried to create strategies for clients in order to protect them. Also, they emphasized that this year Republic of Lithuania and, accordingly, Vilnius University has joined this competition for the first time, therefore, they were really grateful for this opportunity and appreciated, that Vilnius University was sponsoring and letting them participate. According to them, this was an extraordinary experience and essential for every student, therefore they hoped, that one day Lithuania could win first place.
