Assoc. prof. dr. Danguolė Bublienė has been appointed as the President of the Supreme Court of Lithuania

Today, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania appointed dr. Danguolė Bublienė, associate professor of the Department of Private Law at the VU Law Faculty, as the President of the Supreme Court of Lithuania. 81 members of the Seimas voted for the judge of the aforementioned court, 10 against, and 18 parliamentarians abstained.

“I see the Supreme Court of Lithuania as a leader in the development of legal thought and legal policy, courageously and at the same time wisely ensuring the rights of individuals and for this purpose uniting not only the courts, but also the entire community of lawyers. The Supreme Court must be able to gather the most professional lawyers in Lithuania, and a young lawyer must associate his career prospects with working in court and consider it an honor to contribute to the improvement of the entire legal system. One of the significant prerequisites for this is the competitive remuneration of court employees compared to the public sector. Today, we are discussing the issues of judges’ salaries and the financing of the judiciary in the aspect of the independence of the judiciary. Therefore, I have no doubt that the respected members of the Seimas, understanding the seriousness of the situation in the judicial system, will support changes in this area”, – said the new chairwoman of the Supreme Court of Lithuania while introducing herself to the members of the Seimas on the first day of the spring session.

Assoc. prof. dr. Danguolė Bublienė has been working at the Supreme Court of Lithuania since 2017, in November last year the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania appointed her as the chairperson of the Civil Cases Department of the Supreme Court of Lithuania. Before becoming a judge, assoc. prof. dr. D. Bublienė has worked as a lawyer, as well in the Ministries of Justice and Education and Science. She obtained her legal qualification at Vilnius University, also completed her doctoral studies at this university and defended her dissertation in the field of consumer law protection.

We sincerely congratulate our colleague Danguolė Bublienė!
