On 27-31 July 2016, Vilnius University’s Faculty of Law team took part in the International Criminal Law Competition – Nuremberg Moot Court 2016. The competition was held in the historic Courtroom 600 where, in 1945-1949, World War II criminals were brought to justice. Faculty of Law team –Ingrida Milkaitė, Aurelija Baltikauskaitė, Dovydas Gudžiūnas and team coach Gintarė Pažereckaitė – showed very good results and became one of the best eight teams!
This year, 25 teams from all over the world participated in the competition, that is to say, from the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Singapore, Rwanda and others. In selective rounds, Vilnius University Faculty of Law team competed against Ugandan and Ethiopian universities and won two victories. In the quarterfinals, they lost only by 1 point to Belfast University’s team from the United Kingdom.
In the finals of the competition this year, met the National University of Singapore (Singapore) and the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). After a hard fight, the winners became the team from Singapore.
Nuremberg Moot Court is notable for the abundance of authoritative judges. This year, a number of them shared their experience with the competition participants – Peter Kremer (Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia), Christopher Gosnells (Defender at the International Criminal Court and other courts), prof. Wolfgang Schomburg (Judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda) and others.
