The conference “Topics of Competition Law 2023” took place

Yesterday was held a conference “Topics of Competition Law 2023”, where professionals and experts from various fields discussed the main topics of competition law: procedures, concentrations, prohibited agreements, participation of the state and municipalities in the business environment.

At the beginning of the event, the Dean of the VU Law Faculty, assoc. prof. dr. Haroldas Šinkūnas said a word of welcome. The academics of the VU Law Faculty participated in the discussions of the conference: prof. dr. Jurgita Paužaitė-Kulvinskienė, lecturer dr. Gediminas Užubalis, lect. dr. Lauras Butkevičius, lect. Marius Juonys and assist. prof. dr. LL.M. Donatas Murauskas.

The participants of the panel discussions agreed that cooperation between different institutions and discussions with lawyers and the business community are characterized by benefits and opportunities to exchange knowledge and experience. Therefore, the necessary further discussions on the proper assurance of procedural rights, the application of the manager personal responsibility, the practice of imposing fines were also confirmed as other important issues. It was noted that it is very important to do homework properly before applying to the Competition Council during Merger Procedures. Effective communication with the Competition Council, which will continue to pay close attention to serious prohibited agreements, is also important. Meanwhile, it is still difficult for municipalities to effectively and efficiently control the quality of the provision of public services if the services are not purchased from companies they manage, but the Competition Council will pay close attention to internal transactions.

The conference was organized by the Competition Law Committee of the Lithuanian Bar Association, in cooperation with the Competition Council of the Republic of Lithuania and the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University.
