Visit of guest from the Ukrainian Commissioner for Human Rights institution

On the 2nd – 5th of April 2017 a visit of delegation from the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) institution was organized in Vilnius. The visit was arranged within the frame of the EU Twinning Project “Implementation of the best European practices with the aim of strengthening the institutional capacity of the Apparatus of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights to protect human rights and freedoms (Apparatus)”, which is implemented by the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University together with partner institutions.

The delegation had the opportunity to become familiar with the good examples of Vilnius University Legal Clinic practice, which provides free legal aid, with academic community’s involvement in the fostering of the citizenship, social responsibility and partnership in the society. Guests got acquainted with activities of the Vilnius University, Vilnius University Library and Vilnius University Faculty of Law. The delegation was introduced with the ongoing study programmes, scientific researches about the fundamental human rights and freedom.

During the meeting-discussion at the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Tomas Davulis, the dean of the Vilnius University Faculty of Law, Dr. Ilona Petraitytė and advocate Dr. Diana Gumbrevičiūtė-Kuzminskienė shared examples about the relevant theoretical and practical application of the law, introduced legislative initiatives and recommendations about equal rights, personal data protection issues and other legal regulation aspects relevant to the Ukraine and Lithuania.

Partners of the project: the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania, the Office of the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson (Republic of Lithuania), the State Data Protection Inspectorate (Republic of Lithuania), the Law Institute of Lithuania, Vilnius University (Republic of Lithuania), the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights (Austria) and the Central Project Management Agency (Republic of Lithuania).
