VU Faculty of Law representatives participated in an international law students’ seminar in Kenya

On 4-9 of February, 2019 at Kenyatta University, in Nairobi (Kenya) international law students seminar took place. This year’s event was attended by VU Faculty of Law students Gabrielė Raižytė, Grėta Tomkūnaitė, Mindaugas Beniušis and Evelina Vaišvilaitė, curated by associate professor dr. Vaidotas A. Vaičaitis.

This year theme of the seminar was “Right to vote and electoral law in comparative perspective”.  Students and professors from six different countries (Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Russia and Kenya), who have presented papers on the subject, participated by  VU Faculty of Law students discussed the following issues: the influence of political advertising on the implementation of electoral law, a similar number of voters importance of distribution in constituencies for the implementation of the principle of equality, e-voting realization and the aspects of the applicants criminal history. The papers were presented by four groups of different topics where each country was represented. When all of them presented their case, questions were asked by the audience and the speakers answered by sharing their insights.

Participants of the seminar were also able to visit Kenya Central Electoral Commission and get acquainted with its work. In the evenings, a social program was organized, of which the most spectacular was Safari’s visit in Nairobi National Park.

Participants are very thankful for organizers for the excellent opportunity and students are invited to participate actively in this seminar, which will be held in Vilnius University in November, and the theme will be “The role of judicial power in modern democracy”.
