On 24-25 June, the 1st Hugo Sinzheimer Moot Court Competition for international labour law took place in Amsterdam. The HS MCC is an initiative from five befriended lecturers in labour law. The aim of the HS MCC is to deepen and improve the knowledge of employment and labour law at the European level. This year, the competition was hosted by the Hugo Sinzheimer Institute.
Vilnius University was represented by the Faculty of Law fourth-year students Aistė Butvilaitė, Kornelija Jonuškaitė, Dainius Auštrevičius ir Žygimantas Maškevičius. The team was coached by prof. dr. Daiva Petrylaitė.
The competition consisted of two parts: written and oral. Vilnius University team had a month to prepare a written statement of claim and a written statement of defence, and then prepare for the oral part of the competition. Even though the latter demanded the greatest efforts and was stressful for the team, it was the most interesting and exciting part of the competition. This year, the competition task was related to the posting of workers in the European Union, unanimous functioning of the European market functioning and the social dimension of labour law.
The team won the case against the applicants regarding all the requirements, made it to the finals, and came in second after the Dutch team! The written statement of claim and statement of defence of the Lithuanian team were evaluated for the third place. The competitors during the oral part were assessed individually. The Faculty of Law team member Aistė Butvilaitė performed excellently and won the first place!
