A lecture on the teaching method used in the USA – students will be able to study with American fellows in the Spring semester

Methodological lecture “Analytical dialogue – from knowledge to understanding” was held for the University community at the Law Faculty on September 27th. The lecture was led by an enthusiast and practitioner of the analytical method prof. Charles Szypszak (the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) and Assoc. Prof. Donatas Murauskas (VU Law Faculty).

Prof. Ch. Szypszak presented the main criteria for the application of the analytical method, told about the peculiarities of its application in US universities. The analytical method ensures an objective analysis of phenomena – students develop the ability to look at alternative ways of interpreting the same phenomenon, learn critical thinking and understand complex issues more deeply, formulate their own positions. Dr. D. Murauskas discussed the use of the method while working with Lithuanian and foreign students. He noted the formation of independent, original thinking about phenomena as one of the essential features of such teaching.

At the end of the meeting, the professors performed an unstaged demonstration of the application of analytical dialogue in practice, discussing the famous case of the US Supreme Court. The students, who participated in the first-ever course “Current Public Law Topics in Comparative Perspective: Europe and the United States”, also visited the lecture and commented about their experience.

This year, students of the IV year of full-time studies at VU Law Faculty will also be able to choose this course as an optional subject.
