Discussion to commemorate 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania

On the 26th of October, 2017 Vilnius University Faculty of Law together with Lithuania lawyers association and VU Faculty of Law Alumni society organised a discussion to commemorate 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania. Guests from different legal institutions, also students and scholars of the Faculty of Law participated in the event.

Prof. Dr. Egidijus Šileikis spoke about nine passed amendments of the Constitution and about the role of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania. Other speaker Prof. Habil. Dr. Gintaras Švedas highlighted an unconditional connection between Constitution and criminal law. Only by leaning on this relationship can the acts of criminal law be understood. A famous lawyer of Lithuania professor of practice Dr. Liudvika Meškauskaitė chose to discuss 25th article of Lithuania‘s Constitution. She raised a question if citizens of Lithuania do really have a right to self-expression and if this right has its own limits. The last but not the least speaker was Vladimiras Laučius, a senior editor of LRT.lt. He went deep into the relations between politics and law.
